My WGA Bypass Method Wrong

After trying my solution on other computers outside my home I have come to the conclusion that it simply doesn't work.

Sorry guys/gals I really thought it would work on all computers but it would seem MY PID (or CD Key) generates weird auth codes that Microsoft's WGA is seemly confused at and just then allows me (you can reproduce the same auth codes by disabling the actual Add-On in IE) to update.

However good news!

There is a method (DLL replacement) that bypasses (or fools) the Windows Update Site AND their downloads WGA ActiveX Control. Granted it's not a full exploit of the WGA system but it does work with IE.

WGA Thwarted with one file deletion

[edit] For some reason people are reporting this isn't working on their systems. I am trying to reproduce it "not working" on my machines without any luck. I assure you I am just simply moving the file to the Recyle bin and updating without validation. I restore it, I must validate.

I will post anything I find to cause this problems here.

Version information on dll.

1.5.0.42

Here is a capture I did in Macromedia Captive (SWF) to show my procedure (and how it works for me). Let me know if anyone sees something I didn't mention.

Full Screen (Resolution 1024x768), you will have to scroll if you are at or under this resolution.

Well I was playing around with WGA and I found a simple way to disable it (without an annoying prompt telling you to enable the plugin in IE or using the javascript everytime).

Simply delete "GWFSPidGen.dll"

Found under

%Systemroot%\system32

Copy text above and paste into "Run" Command.

Get your Windows Updates without an annoying prompt.

I don't like this WGA at all. Virus writers can now get people to think they are running an illegal copy of Winodws. How does this help MS?

What do I promise?

So, you might be wondering what can you except from this site.

What can you except?

Decent reviews?
Unbiased views?
Balanced Views?

Nope, non of those. I promise to tell it like I (read the bold again in case you forget) see it.

I am biased to good products. I determine what makes a good product.

Nothing in life is "balanced".

There are right ways of doing things as well as wrong ways of doing things. However; my goal is always to find the BETTER way of doing things. You will find that "better" is almost always 100 percent relative to the situations and people involved.

I have an ideology of the way things should work (it doesn't stay static) with politics, religion, and life. No single person is going to change it. You can leave your views and I will read them. Just don't expect me to change to them. In fact, be ready to defend them. Chances are you are like the other 80 percent of the world without an original idea(s) or belief(s).

Feel Insulted?

Good.

I won't be the last one that expresses my views to you in which you'll find insulting.

UNIX = Security?

Whoa do I tire of comments like

It's built on the framework of UNIX, so it is inherently secure.

I wonder about these types of comments. Do people actually believe that Unix was developed secure from step one? Do people believe that OS X must be more secure than Windows because it's developed on Unix (BSD)? Those who used the system (UNIX) back in the early AT&T days sure didn't think so. My UNIX experience is limited to my age however I do have quite a bit of UNIX experience to comment on the history and future of UNIX.

It's funny that Unix and those that mimic it's functions are indeed the most hacked and exploited system in the server industry. However, do I say Unix is insecure?

Nope. If you look at the majority of these exploited systems you can see a fundamental similarity in all of them.

Administration Ignorance.

The same came be true of the majority of exploited consumer Windows boxes. People installing spyware and opening file attachments in e-mail as if it were some computer White Christmas. What also brings the mundane attitude amongst computer users to update their software? Do they think these software prompts to update are not important?

Not to mention the ignorant Administrators that suggests security by obscurity. I love how I see Firefox (for example) being dealt out as if it where some magic pill to cure spyware and viruses. It would seem Firefox is showing it's popularity age with numerous sites installing spyware and viruses on Firefox browsers. Then I see those same Administrators suffering from the problem. Getting people to update not to mention KNOWING they need to update (Firefox's little red arrow is less than to be desired in notification). Why didn't they make this their first priority?!

With spyware showing up and setting it's eyes of OS X as it's next victim, it is a wonder how these people can simply pigeon hole an OS's security based on part of it's history amongst developers (the majority) that no longer work in the industry.

Reading Once Again

After a long time (3+ years) I have started to read again (for personal enjoyment). No more "blind" researching on computer technology and related product specifications. It's been too long since I have just truly "enjoyed" reading on an entertainment level. Ever seen the CDW commercials where people read product manuals for bedtime reading? I don't read manuals on that basis but I do read about future and current technologies in the field of computers.

However in the last few years I have finally burned out my passion. I blame people for the burn out. Most people think that dealing with computers and being employed in the IT field means little to no social skills required. Not so.

Making computers work is easy....making people understand and work is sometimes a little less than an act of God. The details to why the human factor had almost killed my passion is long and extensive.

The problems are different everyday and that's what I like about the job. I couldn't be a person that worked in a bank that sat around counting money and doing the same redundant steps everyday (I worked for a bank and learned the hard way). The people on the other hand, are redundant. Why is this? I guess most people do like to have a routine set of steps they follow everyday. For some reason if it changes they cry murder and search for any method of obtaining it again. Simple changes; as in an extra click (yes just one) can have people calling me up cursing and threatening to find someone else that can "fix" the problem.

The true problem (which caused a bigger inconvenience to that person's productivity) had been fixed however; it's the human factor to evolve that is broken. Things change in the computer world and like it or not, you will have to evolve.

Ever remember those people swearing off computers as some kind of evil machine that took jobs away from people? They couldn't see the big picture and all they saw were computers taking jobs away from people. It was "outrageous" to pick a computer of a human. The human had a family! In fact, some of those people were most likely the same people that had simple and redundant tasks. When your mom and dad said an education was important they were not lying. In today's world, more and more jobs are requiring a diverse and multitasking brain. You have to problem solve a great deal more in the percentage of the time you spend at work. Get used to it.

Is it True?

Get turned right into the wrong direction.....Soon.
